Tropical Homes of Costa Rica

With unspoiled, stunning white sand beaches and clear, blue waters, here is the area description of Playa Flamingo, Playa Potrero, Playa Grande, and Brasilito is the ideal tropical vacation getaway.

Located on the Pacific Gold Coast in the Guanacaste region, Playa Flamingo is only 50 minutes by car away from the newly built international airport of Liberia (LIR,http://www.liberiacostaricaairport.net/),or 4 hours from the capital San Jose (SJO,http://www.airport-information.org/CR/SJO/).

Both airports are serviced by a wide variety of international airlines, like American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines.

The small national airport in Playa Tamarindo is also only 20 minutes away.  This airport is serviced by Sansa (www.flysansa.com) and Nature Air (www.natureair.com), which provide service from San Jose and Liberia to Tamarindo, as well as many other local flights.

Playa Flamingo has been ranked one of the best destinations in Costa Rica. The average daily temperature is 32° C, or 90° F.  The dry season is between December and April, and a so called ´little summer` occurs between July and August.  The rainy season comes during the months of September and October.

Our growing community now supports multiple international schools in the area.  The Country Day School Guanacaste (www.cdsgte.com) is in Playa Brasilito, and grades going from elementary to high school.  The La Paz Community School (www.lapazschool.org) is betweenPlaya Brasilito and Playa Flamingo, and also support elementary through high school students.  A bit further away in the town of Huacas is the Gold Coast Learning Center, and is for grades 7 to 12.If you would like to learn Spanish, try the CPI Spanish Immersion School (www.spanishlanguageschool.com), located directly across from the marina of Playa Flamingo.

Playa Flamingo is home to a open-anchor marina full of boats famous for world class deep sea fishing for marlin, sailfish, snapper, and tuna.  Scuba diving charters, sunset cruises, and sailing tours are also available and first class. For the adventurous guest, the area also offers horseback riding, ATV Tours, canopy tours, and scheduled day trips to many of Costa Rica´s beautiful national parks like Vulcan Arenal, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (http://www.monteverdeinfo.com/monteverde.htm), or Playa Grande’s Las Baulas National Park (http://www.costarica-nationalparks.com/lasbaulasnationalmarinepark.html), an area of leather back turtle nesting grounds.

Enjoy an exciting variety of restaurants, like famous gourmet restaurant Mar y Sol,  Marie´s Restaurant (www.mariesrestaurantincostarica.com), or Angelina’s in the newly built La Plaza in the centre of Playa Flamingo.  El Camaron Dorado and the Happy Snapper also provide great choices for fresh fish and food in Brasilito. The best Costa Rican food in town is served right on the beach of Playa Potrero at Soda Pleamar.

Playa Grande
is a beach town on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, just north of Playa Tamarindo and south of Playa FlamingoPlaya Grande is internationally popular as one of Costa Rica’s best surfing spots, and is also home to Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas, the nesting grounds of the largest marine reptile, the Leatherback Turtle.  This area is the second largest nesting area of the Leatherback and Olive Ridley Turtles in the world.  As a result, this town is active during the day but rather calm at night.  Playa Grande is truly a surf town, and is very tranquilo and laid back.  It also is only an hour away from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica.

In addition to its breathtaking beauty, Playa Grande offers a bohemian lifestyle while surrounded by largely undeveloped neighboring beaches.  A number of surf camps and restaurants of varying culinary styles and quality, including El Huerto, Secret Spot, Kike’s, Mar Bar, Playa Grande Inn, Rip Jack Inn, Kike’s, Sushi Surf Hotel, La Cantarana, and a mini market, help make this area an independent, thriving community.

On the southern end of Playa Grande, Palm Beach Estates is a gated community with its own local amenities. Palm Beach has a small supermarket, restaurants, and a few hotels to service the area. A boat dock on the estuary permits quick boat rides up and down the estuary to the nearby town of Tamarindo in less five minutes for shopping or other necessities. The Great Waltini’s at Hotel Bula Bula is a quality restaurant for dinner with a boat taxi service to Tamarindo.
