If you’re planning a vacation to Playa Flamingo Costa Rica, you’re sure to have lots of questions about the area, especially One of the most common questions we hear is, “Where is the airport in Playa Flamingo?” The answer may surprise you!
While there’s no airport that lets you right out onto the beach – as much as we would love to slide out of the airplane in our swimsuits and start the vacation off right! But there are 3 airports you should be familiar with that will get you to Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica in no time.
Closest Domestic Airport: Tamarindo Domestic Airport (TNO)
If you’re going to use a connecting flight from San Jose Airport, Tamarindo has daily flights that will get you as close as an aircraft can get you to our beautiful white sand beaches. It’s just a 30-minute drive from Playa Flamingo, and 5 minutes into the heart of Tamarindo if you need to pick up some things on the way.
Closest International Option: Liberia Airport (LIR)
Liberia International Airport (LIR) is also a close-by option if you’re able to snag a cheap flight here. It only takes about 45 minutes to an hour to drive from LIR to Playa Flamingo, which is just enough time to take in the scenery before you succumb to the magnetic pull of our little city.
Scenic Route: San Jose (SJO)
If you’re thinking of taking your time getting to Playa Flamingo, it may be worth renting a car and driving here from San Jose, which is about a 4-hour drive away. The roads wind through scenic landscapes of mountains, jungles and quaint Tico towns, and you can stop off at different sites along the way to stretch your legs and experience a little more of what Costa Rica has to offer. Companies like Avis, Budget, and Enterprise are ready for you at the airport. There are also companies like Grayline or Interbus for shared shuttles or we can book you a private on. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can let someone else do the driving on a (very inexpensive) bus for a longer (6 to 7 hours), but definitely exciting option.
Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica Travel Pro Tip
We’re thrilled to have TNO so close by, and the airport has daily connections to LIR and SJO, but, if we may be honest, it’s a waste of your time and money getting on another plane from LIR to TNO. However, a flight from San Jose to either airport is a good bang for your buck if you’re not the scenic-route type (or if you’re just itching to play in the ocean!).
