I cannot tell you how much my family and I enjoyed our recent vacation in Playa Portrero, Costa Rica. Our accommodations at the Pacific Beach Condominiums were, simply put, perfect.
We have traveled to many beautiful and tropical locations, have stayed at all-inclusive resorts as well as rented condos and luxury villas. None provided the amazing, local immersion as our visit to Costa Rica, and none provided a backdrop as beautiful and relaxing.
Our conversations with Rita and Roxana were highly informative and professional as we planned out our stay. I’m sure I was a bit of a high-maintenance client working to design the perfect vacation for our family, which included two young, energetic boys (seven and five years old). Rita quickly sought to understand what our family was looking for in a vacation and helped encourage us to stay at the Pacific Beach condos instead of another property that may not have been as well suited for our family. Roxana took the worry out of the up-front planning and set us up with two amazing tours during our stay. We ziplined at Congo Trail and took a 3+ hour private ATV excursion visiting all of the nearby beaches. Both experiences can only be described as amazing.
Upon our arrival to the condo, Jesus, the property manager, greeted us and even made a quick run to the grocery store for us as we were waiting for our rental car to be delivered. He made himself available to us for anything we needed during our stay and promptly answered my phone calls when we had questions.
The proximity of the condo to Portrero beach was perfect. The pool and condo grounds were well kept and helped make the trip very memorable. We felt right at home and didn’t want to leave after our week.
The food in Playa Portrero and neighboring towns was one of the true highlights. Some of the best food we’ve ever had anywhere in the world. The fresh fish and seafood was to die for.
Without a doubt, we hope to make many return trips to this area. I would highly recommend Tropical Homes of Costa Rica for anyone looking to experience this amazing country.

If you’re planning a vacation to Playa Flamingo Costa Rica, you’re sure to have lots of questions about the area, especially One of the most common questions we hear is, “Where is the airport in Playa Flamingo?” The answer may surprise you!

While there’s no airport that lets you right out onto the beach – as much as we would love to slide out of the airplane in our swimsuits and start the vacation off right! But there are 3 airports you should be familiar with that will get you to Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica in no time.

Closest Domestic Airport: Tamarindo Domestic Airport (TNO)

If you’re going to use a connecting flight from San Jose Airport, Tamarindo has daily flights that will get you as close as an aircraft can get you to our beautiful white sand beaches. It’s just a 30-minute drive from Playa Flamingo, and 5 minutes into the heart of Tamarindo if you need to pick up some things on the way.

Closest International Option: Liberia Airport (LIR)

Liberia International Airport (LIR) is also a close-by option if you’re able to snag a cheap flight here. It only takes about 45 minutes to an hour to drive from LIR to Playa Flamingo, which is just enough time to take in the scenery before you succumb to the magnetic pull of our little city.

Scenic Route: San Jose (SJO)

If you’re thinking of taking your time getting to Playa Flamingo, it may be worth renting a car and driving here from San Jose, which is about a 4-hour drive away. The roads wind through scenic landscapes of mountains, jungles and quaint Tico towns, and you can stop off at different sites along the way to stretch your legs and experience a little more of what Costa Rica has to offer. Companies like Avis, Budget, and Enterprise are ready for you at the airport. There are also companies like Grayline or Interbus for shared shuttles or we can book you a private on. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, you can let someone else do the driving on a (very inexpensive) bus for a longer (6 to 7 hours), but definitely exciting option.

Playa Flamingo, Costa Rica Travel Pro Tip

We’re thrilled to have TNO so close by, and the airport has daily connections to LIR and SJO, but, if we may be honest, it’s a waste of your time and money getting on another plane from LIR to TNO. However, a flight from San Jose to either airport is a good bang for your buck if you’re not the scenic-route type (or if you’re just itching to play in the ocean!).

Dear Britta and Rita

I just wanted to let you both know that my family had a wonderful time at Villa Oasis. The house was beautiful and we had everything we needed and more. Most of all, Miguel and Maria were so kind, friendly and helpful. I was really impressed with them both. Bladimir was also very helpful and attentive every time I needed to call with a question. Thank you so much for making my family’s trip to Costa Rica so special. We look forward to renting from Tropical Homes again in the future!

Eric – we just got back from our trip to Costa Rica. Have to tell you how much we enjoyed Vista Magnifica! The home’s view is breathtaking. Love the outdoor living and dining they make for such an enjoyable gathering place. The pool was just heaven to relax and enjoy the view. A confession – we really wanted to kidnap your on-site help. Rosita’s cooking and backrubs are worth twice the price. Bismark was so helpful. They were awesome. Tropical Homes was very helpful when we made our travel arrangements and all the sightseeing. We all commented on how truly lovely the Costa Rican people are. Pura Vida! Thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us.
