Tropical Homes of Costa Rica

It is already that time of the week, and the 10th edition of the Tropical Homes local news update is here!  Hurrahs all around!  It has been a beautiful week rain and and incredibly hot sun, and there is a lot going on for what is supposed to be a quiet rainy season.  The many new additions and changes to the town over the past year are already showing the changes they brought with them, and it seems that we are in for a much more active and exciting low season.  Whether visiting or local, it’s great to share this amazing place with others, and watch it continue to grow.

But enough of that for now, let’s see what’s the low down and what’s on the way up!

  • Specials and happy hours at Restaurant Mar y Sol in Flamingo if you love food and/or drink.  Happy hours from 4-6 on Friday and Saturday, and a delicious new bocas tray that you must try.  Mar y Sol’s famous all you can eat buffet is on Wednesday the 27th, and the theme for the night is Japanese food.  Show up early, for the buffets do sell out, and the food does get eaten!
  • The Pura Vida Ride Stand Up Paddle Battle event was a huge success this weekend in the Las Catalinas development.  Contestants of all ages competed in different categories for some amazing fun on the ocean, with a distance race, sprint races, and a family race with as many people on the board as possible.  Look forward to more exciting events during the rainy season from these businesses.
  • The service organization Abriendo Mentes not only celebrated its 3rd anniversary this year, but welcomes its new project director Lindsey Losasso and her husband to the area!  Drew and Meradith have done so much in this community, and we wish them the best of luck as they move on to the next step of their journeys.  Stop by the Potrero Salon Comunal or the office to find out more information about volunteering or service in the area.
  • For any expats in the area, or anyone who likes a fiesta, the Happy Snapper Restaurant in Brasilito is holding a July 4th barbecue bash!  The best parts of July 4th in America, fireworks, barbecue, and softball, but down here in the tropics!  It starts at 11, bring an umbrella and a lounge chair, or call 2654-4413 for more information.

That’s what’s happening around you if you are in the wonderful beach land of Costa Rica.  Maybe we’ll see each other around town, have a great week!

Greetings one and all, and welcome to the newest version of the Tropical Homes local news update!  When you take a look around outside, it is an amazing reminder of how wonderful Costa Rica is, and why we live or vacation here.  The world is changing colors with all of the rain, and the formerly dry and dusty yellow fields are now green and pulsing with life.  Flowers are blossoming, cattle and calves are galloping, birds are singing, and some tremendous showers are falling.   The rainy season is Costa Rica is truly beautiful, and an experience everyone should have.

What’s going on now that the world has slowed down a bit, and locals are restless with the rain?  Well, that’s the whole reason I am here.  Let’s check it out.

  • Maxwell’s Bar and Restaurant has some delicious rainy season deals, so come on over for some delicious home cooked food, California style.  Thursday night is also Texas Hold’em night, be prepared to play for hours and have an amazing time.
  • El Coconuts Beach Club Potrero is reopening its doors!  A beautiful location right off the beach in Surfside, El Coconuts has multiple swimming pools, two bars, plenty of green grass and shade, and delicious food to boot.
  • The Happy Snapper Restaurant in Brasilito has decided that Lobster Fest is back, serving delicious fresh lobster cooked any way you please for only $20 a plate.  Local singer Scott is also playing acoustic guitar and singing Saturday night, wonderful music for a wonderful experience.  For reservations, call 2654-4413.
  • Stop, thief!  A thief has been spotted trying to break into a car by security cameras in the Las Catalinas development in Playa Danta.  The man escaped before security guards could respond, but a great picture of his face was captured, and has been widely spread throughout the community, and to the police.  His pictures are posted below.  Contact the tourist police at 2654-5086 or 2654-6136 with any information.

It is great to see the community responding so quickly to this report, and shows the wonderful strides the area has made in eliminating petty theft.  Everyone is working together to make this community grow and thrive.  That’s it for this week, smooth sailing and sandy beaches, hasta luego.

Thief caught red handed in Costa Rica

The ocean view from the mountains in Potrero, Costa Rica

I had the pleasure the other day of visiting Casa Vista Magnifica, a beautiful home rented by Tropical Homes in the town of Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.  From the town center, up the mountain through Pacific Heights we drove, crested a giant cliff and arrived at our destination.  The trek up the mountain itself was breathtaking, but the first glance at the enormous Villa perched on the mountainside was even more so.  Even this did not prepare me for the moment when I first entered this majestic house.

I set foot into Casa Vista Magnifica, and I felt immediately home.  The opening room of the house is a beautiful zen water garden with large stone steps over the water, beckoning you forward into different parts of the house.  A relaxed, open air atmosphere permeates the entire first floor of the house, filled with lush green plants, gentle breezes, and cool smooth stone.  The foyer room also leads to the second floor, opens onto a bedroom suite, and opens to the kitchen/dining area, bar, and pool porch.

The view from the infinity pool stretches from one side of the horizon to the other, with an aerial and bird like view of Playa Prieta, Las Islas Catalinas, and mountain coastline to the north.  The patio area is immense, and shades can be drawn to protect from the sun or completely open.  All of the house is full of amazing windows and mirrors, lending reflective and multiple perspectives on everything.  Bedrooms with private outside showers open onto the patio at each end, and the ‘vista magnifica’ greets you every morning when you wake up.

The high ceilings in all the room add to the depth and feeling of open space that you feel while in the house.  The second floor is another immense patio with a television/reading room and two bedrooms.  The bedrooms are at opposite ends, with windows that open up to the Pacific Ocean and private outdoor showers.

The entire house feels alive, full of plants and flowing wind.  The openness and airiness of the home let you live surrounded by the beautiful, Costa Rican tropical paradise.  What a great place to live the ‘pura vida’ lifestyle on vacation and experience the amazing natural beauty of the country.
