Playa Tamarindo is perfect for beginners as the waves are medium to small and offer several beach breaks spots. This is the perfect option if you are wanting to learn how to surf! Tamarindo is a busy beach town with a variety of surf breaks in the bay and more advanced waves in near by towns – Langosta & Playa Grande.
One of the best beaches for surfing in Guanacaste is Playa Grande, with fairly big waves it is one of the consistently good surf spots. Located next to the estuary, it is an important part of Las Baulas National Park, which takes care of the leatherback turtles that nest on this beach.
Located South of Tamarindo & Playa Grande is Playa Avellanas that offers quality waves all year round due to the excellent wind conditions. Playa Avellanas has several breaks along the beach that are good for beginners to advanced surfers.
